Thoughts on Change

You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take.

                                             -Wayne Gretzky

Change is everywhere, inevitable, persistent, consistent, and unstoppable.

My job as a physician often leads to discussions of change.

Response to the message of change varies from patient to patient.  I often share with patients a common truth.

Thoughts become actions, actions become habits, habits become your life.

The decision for health or illness, happiness or despair simply lies in ones day to day decisions.

Many of my colleagues cynically comment that ‘talking nutrition’ is a waste of time.

“Nobody listens!”

“Insurances don’t pay for that…”

“I don’t have time”

Admittedly many patients don’t change.  But they did hear the message.  Planting a seed of inspiration (Such as diabetes is curable) may not cause a change that day or before the next follow up, but that message was planted.

If the “Correct” advice isn’t given, the doctor never took a shot.

If the patient never receives the truthful, empowering message that lifestyle can cure DIS-EASE, the patient never gets his/her shot.

I’m with Wayne Gretzky, I plan to keep shooting, inspiring, and teaching.

PS–I hope this post finds you well and rolling with change/growth.  Let’s keep each other inspired.  Your feed back and recommendations for others are always welcome!
